paradise kiss

6/10

this anime is centered around fashion! how fun

i adore the character designs and was drawn to this anime because it was created by the same person who made nana

it follows a group of quirky fashion students attempting the finish a dress in time for a competition, while their model is conflicted and cant decide what life she wants for herself.

most of the anime is centered around relationships that are pretty freaky.. these relationships have their troubles that the anime focuses on and you get to see the characters overcome

personally i just cared about them getting that dress done on time

what i escpecially like about this anime is that it presents a beautifully written transgender character. one of the main characters is a transgender woman and the way she speaks about it is beautiful and relatable, its the best representaion ive seen in anime

ergo proxy

7/10

i dont watch many post-apocolyptic medias but this anime really caught my eye

the setting of the anime is super interesting, an ecological disaster has made the outside world uninhabitable and humans now coexist with androids in domes that are protected from the outside world

ergo proxy dives deep into themes of sentience and humanity. a lot of it questions what being human really means. it shows love, betrayal, and childish joy. it questions how someone can find happiness in a world so terrible and shows how nihilism affects people

the main characters are all endearing in their own different ways and they all perservere despite everything and everyone trying to stop them.

the down side to this anime is that it is insanely hard to follow or gather the main story from, i had to read multiple synopses while watching and after watching. i recommend this video

haibane renmei

9/10

my other favorite anime, this is one i dont see many people talk about

i find that one of the best aspects of this anime is how much of it is up to interpretation, many things in this anime are left unexplained, what exactly are the haibane? why were they put in glie? these are the same things that the characters ask themselves

some people find haibane renmeis cryptic nature to be frustrating but i personally adore it!

the over arching themes sneak up in a way you dont initailly expect and it is SO sad!

the ending is devastating but when all is said and done its actually really inspiring and hopeful.

i think everyone needs to give haibane renmei a watch, if you find it a little too relatable it will be one of the saddest things youve ever watched but i promise you can learn a great lesson from it

death note

8/10

if you are interested in complex characters with conflicting morals this is the anime for you!!

this anime has such a way of questioning the viewers morals, what the antagonist does is morally wrong but done with good intentions. even the characters themselves have trouble differentiating good from evil

i cant bear to truely hate any character in death note becase they are all written too well, the plot is just as complex as the characters and has an insane amount of twists that i didnt expect

i do stand by my opinion that DN is one of the best animes ever, however the plot can be hard to follow if your not giving it your full attention. the turning point also has a huge drop in quality that cuts out so much content from the manga, new characters get introduced but are never allowed to show off their capabilities.

dont let this turn you away from watching (its worth it i swear) just keep it in mind as you watch DN and i suggest reading the manga aswell!
